S: Do you think that a woman can be lonely like a man?
A: Why? Do you presume woman cannot be lonely?
S: It comes down to a question of love.
A: The great theme. Love. Once again you will become the philosopher of love. You who has received but little love in your life. How did you get through a largely loveless life?
S: There is this swimmer. He is struggling in a sea of apathy. His lungs are filling with the foul liquid. But his heart is the heart of a lover. Of the god of love who he is named after. He cannot let them and the world of apathy overcome him. He is the warrior from the warrior culture. His destiny is war.
A: A war of love?
S: Life against death.
A: From the man that dreams to die.
S: There is one that is the lone man.
A: You call yourself this. Why?
S: There is one they expect to stand alone. There is one that can stand alone. He is like god. He survives somehow in the dark well of loneliness, always with his eyes on the lights above. His philosophy? That no matter how brutal life is, that he will live it. He is India. He is Punjab. He is life. He cannot be ruled by hate. He cannot be ruled by death.
A: Your problem is that you love too easily. Love is dangerous. Do you not fear?
S: The coward is beneath contempt. The warrior will throw his heart at the feet of beauty without a second thought.
A: And when beauty tramples upon this heart?
S: A heart is made to be broken. And a tough man? You can break his heart. He will dream of death but he will not die. In his heart there is a hidden and unyielding strength. It is true love which is power. Which is invincible. It is why he stands still as the lone man to love again. The enemies of love and the misers and hoarders of love, who are they? As they say in the film ‘Khuda Gawah’ (god is witness):
roshni agar khudah ko ho manzoor
if light is the choice of god
to andhiyon mein chirag jalte hai
then in the storm the lights will burn
khudah gawah hai
god is witness
Once, I said it to one that I loved.
