the impossibility of love

07.10.2026

S: The hardest thing to get in this world is love.

A: There are many that love. That are in loving relationships. It is not too difficult, surely?

S: Everything that has been given has come with great reluctance. They begrudge all. Especially love. If you are difference itself, then you are unloved and unloveable.

A: Are there not then those who love difference?

S: Pure unadulterated difference? We have had this disagreement before. I believe this society is conformist and especially when it comes to the questions of race and ethnicity. You do not believe this.

A: Come, back to the topic of love. After all, you are the philosopher of love.

S: Nothing is more humbling and atomising as not getting love. When the ones that you love reject you. When your love has been in vain.

A: You do not believe that it is better to have loved and lost?

S: Only an imbecile would believe that. There is no redeeming feature in an unrequited love. All it does is to convulse your life with bitterness. The impossibility of love is not its most alluring attribute. Not at all.
